Our technology

The DIERS 4D motion lab. No guesswork. Just facts.

One fully integrated scan, head to toe, powered by the DIERS 4Dmotion® Lab. It measures your spine, pelvis, legs and feet together, standing and walking, with no radiation, so we can see how one part affects another.

A registered medical device

More than a foot scanner.

Many gait-analysis and foot-pressure systems are built mainly for shoe fitting and orthotics. The DIERS lab is an integrated, registered medical device that measures your spine, pelvis, legs and feet together, standing and moving, with no radiation at all.

An MRI looks at one spot while you lie still. This looks at how your whole body moves. The two do different jobs, and we explain when you need which.

Developed by DIERS International in Germany and studied in peer-reviewed research for decades. You will find our lab at the clinic on Leckhampton Road, Cheltenham.

It was amazing to visit Porch House Clinic, their up to date technology and expertise is fabulous… It really does take the guess work out.

Inside the lab

Four DIERS systems. One integrated picture.

Each system is useful on its own. Synchronised, they show what your spine and pelvis are doing at the exact moment your foot loads. That is how connections appear between a foot problem and a back problem.

DIERS formetric 4D

3D/4D spine and posture analysis. A light projector traces a fine grid across your back while cameras record it, building a three-dimensional model of your spine and posture. Nothing touches you, and there is no radiation.

DIERS 4Dmotion®

Dynamic spine measurement. It analyses and visualises the motion of your spine and pelvis while you walk, not just while you stand still.

DIERS Leg Axis

Tracks the geometry of your legs, from behind and from the side, connecting how your feet, ankles, knees and hips line up with your spinal posture.

DIERS pedoscan & pedogait

Foot pressure measured with thousands of sensors, standing (pedoscan) and walking on a pressure-sensing treadmill (pedogait), capturing exactly how you load your feet.

Is it for you?

Made for the unresolved.

  • Want to understand your body and injury, wherever it is?
  • Want to see the connections between the seemingly unrelated?
  • Chronic injury? Tried everything? Getting nowhere?
  • Had an X-ray or MRI with no obvious conclusion?
  • Fed up with endless 'maintenance' appointments?
  • Need pre / post-surgery comparison and rehab?
  • Looking to prevent soft-tissue or osteoarthritic injury?
  • Want to improve performance, in everyday life or in your sport?

What it reveals

The whole, interconnected picture.

Off the treatment couch, upright and weight-bearing, we gather detailed information about your spine, pelvis, legs and feet, so we can guide you knowledgeably to the most effective course of action.

Spine

Vertebra-level shape, alignment and movement, all radiation-free.

Pelvis

Position, rotation and how it transfers load between spine and legs.

Legs

Alignment and movement patterns through hips, knees and ankles.

Feet

Dynamic foot pressure and loading: standing, walking, moving.

Packages & prices

Choose the scan that fits your problem.

From a 45-minute posture scan to the full two-hour motion lab. Every package includes your history, the scan, a report of findings and recommendations.

Most complete

Unresolved Pain Assessment

For pain that has not settled, even after scans, specialists or months of treatment.

£3502-hour deep dive

The full DIERS 4D motion lab: formetric 4D spine (static & motion), Leg Axis (posterior & lateral) and pedogait. Your whole musculoskeletal system measured together, standing still and moving.

  • Medical history and in-person clinical evaluation
  • Full synchronised scan, feet to spine
  • Report of findings, gone through with you on screen
  • Rehabilitation plan: exercises, manual therapy, posture, movement and gait cues, footwear suggestions, orthotic options
  • Some hands-on initial treatment where possible
Runners & sport

Runner & Gait Scan

For runners and active people with a niggle, a recurring injury or a performance goal.

£1501 hour

DIERS pedoscan, pedogait and Leg Axis (posterior & lateral). Hips, knees and ankles, the pressure under your feet and your centre of gravity, standing and moving.

  • Medical history and in-person clinical evaluation
  • Report of findings
  • Rehabilitation plan: exercises, manual therapy, running cues, footwear suggestions, orthotic options
Feet & orthotics

Foot Pressure & Orthotic Assessment

For heel pain, forefoot pain, flat or high-arched feet, or anyone wondering whether orthotics are the answer.

£1501 hour

DIERS pedoscan, pedogait and Leg Axis (posterior & lateral). Hips, knees and ankles, the pressure under your feet and your centre of gravity, standing and moving.

  • Medical history and in-person clinical evaluation
  • Report of findings
  • Rehabilitation plan: exercises, manual therapy, gait cues, footwear suggestions, orthotic options (only if they will genuinely help)
Radiation-free monitoring

Posture & Scoliosis Tracking

For posture concerns and for tracking a spinal curve over time, adults and children, with no radiation.

Static

£9945 min

DIERS formetric 4D spine + pedoscan. Spine, pelvis, foot pressure and centre of gravity while standing.

Static + motion

£1501 hour

Adds DIERS pedogait, so we also see how everything behaves when you move.

  • Medical history
  • Scan of spinal form, pelvic position, foot pressure and centre of gravity
  • Report of findings and further recommendations

Scoliosis is diagnosed and graded by a doctor using X-ray. We measure the features of a curve and monitor change between medical check-ups, so fewer X-rays may be needed along the way.

Each DIERS system can also be used on its own where that is all you need. Not sure which package fits? Call 01242 650810 for a free 10-minute chat, or try the two-minute self-check. Scans are an option, never a requirement: you can book MSK therapy or podiatry directly.

Backed by research

Consistent enough to track real change.

DIERS technology has been tested in peer-reviewed studies. It is highly repeatable and agrees well with X-ray for spinal shape, though not perfectly, which is why we use it to measure and monitor, not to diagnose.

0.996

Same-day repeatability of DIERS scoliosis measurements, with strong agreement with X-ray for the main thoracic curve (r = 0.87). Readings differed from X-ray by around 7–9° on average, which is why we use it to monitor change rather than to diagnose.

Frerich et al., Open Orthopaedics Journal, 2012. 64 adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis.

19 studies

A meta-analysis found rasterstereography (the technology behind DIERS formetric) highly reliable (r > 0.91) and reasonably valid against X-ray (r > 0.70), with stronger results in scoliosis.

Krott, Wild & Betsch, European Spine Journal, 2020.

39 of 40

DIERS formetric 4D spine-shape parameters showed good-to-excellent repeatability in adults, with 36 of 40 holding up between different days. That stability is what makes before-and-after comparisons meaningful.

Degenhardt, Starks & Bhatia, BioMed Research International, 2020. 30 adults.

0.90–0.99

Excellent repeatability, between testers and between sessions, for DIERS pedogait walking measurements, with no systematic bias.

Shen et al., Frontiers in Physiology, 2026. 36 people with knee osteoarthritis.

The same technology is also used in research on knee-replacement outcomes, scoliosis, spinal changes in young people with sedentary lifestyles, postural training in professional sport, and the effect of dental work and orthotics on the whole musculoskeletal system.

What the scan cannot see

The scan measures the surface of your body and how it moves. It cannot see discs, nerves, bone or fractures. If you have warning signs such as numbness in the groin, new bladder or bowel problems, worsening leg weakness, fever with back pain, or a recent hard fall, you need a doctor first.
