Static

£9945 min

DIERS formetric 4D spine + pedoscan. Spine, pelvis, foot pressure and centre of gravity while standing.

Static + motion

£1501 hour

Adds DIERS pedogait, so we also see how everything behaves when you move.

  • Medical history
  • Scan of spinal form, pelvic position, foot pressure and centre of gravity
  • Report of findings and further recommendations

Scoliosis is diagnosed and graded by a doctor using X-ray. We measure the features of a curve and monitor change between medical check-ups, so fewer X-rays may be needed along the way.

Each DIERS system can also be used on its own where that is all you need. Not sure which package fits? Call 01242 650810 for a free 10-minute chat, or try the two-minute self-check. Scans are an option, never a requirement: you can book MSK therapy or podiatry directly.

Is a 4D scan right for me?

Answer a few quick questions and we will suggest the package that fits, or tell you if you should see a doctor first.

Weighing up an MRI or a consultant?

How the options compare.

An MRI looks at one spot while you lie still. Our 4D scan looks at how your whole body moves, standing and walking. They do different jobs.

Costs are typical published self-pay prices from Cheltenham and national imaging providers in October 2026 and will vary. Some national providers include the referral step through an online questionnaire. MRI and X-ray show things our scan cannot, such as discs, nerves and bone. If you need one, we will tell you, and as HCPC-registered clinicians we can refer you.

MRI, consultant or 4D scan: which should come first? →

Before you book

When you need a doctor first.

Most aches and pains are not serious. A few symptoms are, and they need medical care before any scan.

Go to A&E or call 999 now

If back or neck pain comes with any of these, you need emergency care, not a scan:

  • Numbness or tingling in the groin, buttocks, inner thighs or genital area
  • New bladder or bowel problems: you cannot pass urine, or you lose control
  • Weakness in the legs or feet that is getting worse, such as foot drop, or numbness that is spreading
  • Severe spinal pain at night that wakes you and does not ease when you lie down or change position
  • Fever, chills or night sweats with spinal pain

See a doctor first

We will not scan until a doctor or HCPC-registered clinician has ruled out a structural or medical cause if you have:

  • A recent significant injury, such as a hard fall, sports collision or car accident, with a possible fracture
  • A history of cancer and new or unexplained spinal pain
  • Unexplained weight loss alongside the pain
  • Severe osteoporosis or long-term steroid use
  • Difficulty standing still or walking unaided, because of pain, spasm, dizziness or balance problems

Our scan measures the surface of your body and how it moves. It cannot see discs, nerves or fractures, which is why these checks come first. For urgent advice that is not an emergency, call NHS 111.

Common questions

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book any package directly.

Do I have to have a scan before treatment?

No. A scan is never compulsory. You can book MSK therapy, MSK podiatry or routine foot care on its own. The scan is there for people who want the fullest picture first.

I have already had an MRI or X-ray. Is a 4D scan still useful?

Often, yes. Imaging shows structure in one area. Our scan shows how your whole body moves and loads. Bring your report and we will look at both together.

Is it safe for children and during pregnancy?

The scan uses visible light only, so there is no radiation exposure.

Can I have a copy of my results?

Yes. You receive a written report of findings with clear next steps.

I am travelling from further away. Can it all be done in one visit?

Yes. Call us first on 01242 650810 and we will set the appointment up to give you everything you need in one trip. We are just off the M5, and Cheltenham Spa station has direct trains from London, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff.
